Solstice ladder

The world is beige
and deep; riveted black striations
chasing vertical dreams up –
and up and up –
To find green.
Too high climbs Lonicera
incongruous limbs clawing at
the shadowed indigenous.
Twenty feet high, Lonicera awaits, but –
You can’t find the spring without
an ear to the ground.
